College Writing 1: Official Guide

This guide directs you to library resources that will assist you in completing your research assignments this semester. The sources listed in this guide will be useful for many other classes as well.

Helping you navigate complex research tools, the librarian is invaluable in explaining research concepts and guiding you to the best sources for your work.

Use these resources to find out information for new students as well as Library-led workshops.

Use these guides to get you started on your research and citing your sources.

Go to and take a look around. Where would you find the catalog? Can you log in to my account? Where is Academic Search Complete?

Run some searches about your topic in Google and Google Scholar. What did you find? Bring an interesting source (it can be anything) to discuss with the class.

Think about your own research experience. What did you do in high school? How does research differ from searching? What search tips do you have for your classmates?

You’ve been assigned a class librarian this semester. Who are they? How can you get in contact with them? Do you know what expertise they offer?
