Carl Neureuther, a 1940 graduate of the Washington University, funded a library endowment for the purchase of literature to encourage a life-long love of reading for pleasure. The endowment adds hundreds of books to the Libraries' collections every year, and you can browse them by searching the Libraries' Catalog.
A Contest Celebrating Pleasure Reading
Mr. Neureuther's endowment also makes it possible for Washington University students to share stories of their own passion for reading and for collecting books through the Neureuther Student Book Collection Essay Competition. How does your personal library reflect your interests and obsessions? How have you gone about building your collection and deciding what to acquire? What was your greatest find? These are only a few of the questions it is possible to explore in submissions to the Neureuther Student Book Collection Essay Competition.
Neureuther winners are eligible to enter the National Collegiate Book Collecting Contest! This competition is sponsored by The Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America, The Fellowship of American Bibliophilic Societies, and The Center for the Book and the Rare Books and Special Collections Division of the Library of Congress.
