HathiTrust -- What is it? What's in it?

 

HathiTrust is a digital library of books and journals covering all subjects and disciplines and in multiple languages. Began by Google partner libraries in 2008, it includes scans of monographs and journals from research libraries. There are 76 member libraries.

To date, there are 10.8 million volumes; of which 3.4 million are in the public domain (full view). Anyone can view public domain materials online.

  • Familiar catalog structure (author, title, subject headings)
  • Full text searching of public domain and in-copyright
  • can create public or private saved sets of items (collections)

ACCESS & DOWNLOADING

  • Everyone can download single pages of public domain volumes
  • Users from partner libraries can download entire public domain volumes

SEARCHING/BROWSING

  • can limit by language, publication date, full view (public domain)
  • search spelling variations separately (e.g. ueber, über; Preussen, Preußen)
  • can browse and search collections
