4 easy steps

Step one:       

  • ‚ÄčLocate your statute on FDSYS.

Step two:      

  •  Identify your public law number via the historical notes under the statute. 

Step three.      

  • Retrieve  your  public law on FDsys. E.g. Publ. 109-37 On the second page right under the enacted date info there is a.ref. to the bill number: S. 1438 

Step four:        

  • The last page offers of this public law offers important citations to legislative history documents! 
  • Retrieve these documents on congress.gov.

Note: This portal also allows you to search via keyword, public law number and bill number.
