ILLiad allows you to submit ILL requests, track their status, check due dates, renew items, etc. You can submit requests in two ways:
How long does an ILL request take to arrive?
Most articles will be posted as PDFs in your ILLiad account within 24-48 hours. Books and other materials are available for pickup usually within 1-2 weeks at John M. Olin Library, Brown School Library, Gaylord Music Library, Pfeiffer Physics Library, or the Kranzberg Art and Architecture Library. Faculty and staff may select Faculty and Staff Campus Box Delivery as their pickup location to have items delivered to their campus mailbox.
How long can I keep ILL materials?
Due dates are set by the lending library. On average lending libraries allow a 4-16 week loan period. One renewal of an additional 2-3 weeks is sometimes granted unless the owning library needs their item back. If you do not return books promptly, you will be billed and your borrowing privileges will be blocked. As a shared arrangement, the success of interlibrary loan depends on the cooperation of all participants.
How do I renew an ILL request?
Log on to ILLiad. Click on Checked Out Items in the left-hand menu. Select the request you want to renew. Click Renew at the top of the screen. If the renew option is missing then renewals may not allowed by the lending library. Contact the ILL staff for further assistance.
Is there a limit for ILL requests?
There currently is not a limit to how many items you may request via interlibrary loan. Please keep in mind that Washington University pays fees for the materials we borrow. Since we do not pass these charges on to our customers, we ask that you exercise judgment and discretion with regard to the number of items requested.
Please note that the The Law Library and Becker Medical Library process Interlibrary Loan materials separately from Olin Library.
