ARTstor Registration

User Types. Artstor grants access privileges based on the type of user.

  1. Unregistered users. This access level is for those guests who do not have an institutional affiliation with Artstor. The search and access will be limited to images contained in public and shared folders.
  2. Registered users. Registered users are those faculty, students and staff affiliated with Washington University.
    Registered users can download images, save image groups, add notes to images within groups, export image groups as Power Point presentations, and view the contents of password-protected shared folders.

How to register.

When you first register for a user account, you must be on-site at your institution or logged in through your institution’s proxy server. 
  1. Access the Artstor Digital Library (
  2. Click the link to Enter Artstor Digital Library.
  3. In the upper right hand corner of the screen, look for a tan box titled Welcome to Artstor.
  4. Click the Register link.
  5. A registration form will appear. Enter a valid email address, password, your role at your institution, and the academic department you are affiliated with. DO NOT use symbols (e.g., ? /\ <>+ # %) or diacritics (e.g., é å ï ñ ô).
  6. Click Submit.
  7. You will automatically be logged in to your new account.
