Since evaluation metrics are sometimes very important, it is necessary to ensure that the correct citations are being gathered. Names, especially when they are Last Name and Initials, are often not unique. Several tools are being developed to authenticate author output.

ORCID
Provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes authors from other authors and, through integration in key research workflows such as manuscript and grant submission, supports automated linkages between authors and their professional activities ensuring that their work is recognized.

Registration for the ORCID iD is free and will be linked among databases such as Scopus and Web of Science, and funding agencies to ensure correct author linkages.

Google Scholar Citations
