Research Impact and Evaluation

Journal Level Metrics

There are many different kinds of citation metrics and impact factors that attempt to measure the quality of journal content in varying ways, and it's important to understand what they mean when selecting a journal for reading or publication. A journal’s impact “score” is retrospective — it cannot tell you the influence that an individual piece of research will have in the future. It cannot be taken as an indicator of the likely number of citations a paper will receive, and it cannot indicate what sort of change a study might lead to in the “real world.”
