General Collections Care for Users

This guide gives users some guidelines on the care and handling of library materials in the general collections.

Page Problems

If you tear a book page inadvertently, or are handling a book with brittle paper and the paper breaks, or if you find a page with tears or breakage, do not try to fix the damage yourself. Please point out the problem to Circulation staff when you return the book.

Cut-out Section

Cutting pages out of library materials permanently defaces them and ruins them for other library patrons. If you return library materials with cut-outs you may be fined for damage to them.

It could be said that cut-outs do not occur as much as in the "old days" due to the availability of copiers, scanners, and digital text. Nonetheless, it is still a problem and does occur.

In this magazine, pages were deliberately removed by a user.
