University Staff - Library Workplace Resources

Your Library: Using Library Resources for Washington University Staff

Welcome!

Olin Library

Welcome to the Library Research Guide for University Staff. As staff, you have the same library privileges as students and faculty--you can use any of the libraries, borrow books, request items, access databases and electronic resources on and off campus, and receive assistance from library staff.

The information in this guide will connect you with some of the best workplace related library resources. Although this research guide is designed specifically for university staff other Subject Research Guides may also be useful for your information needs. This guide is under on-going revision, so please let me know if you have suggestions for making it more useful for your specific job area.

Please contact me if you would like me to visit your department/office to demonstrate the use of library resources for your subject area. Alternatively, your work group can schedule a brown bag in Olin Library where I can provide an overview of topics such as:

  • Requesting and checking out circulating books, ebooks, CD’s, DVDs, musical scores, and other materials from any of the 12 campus libraries (10 on the Danforth Campus, one at West Campus, and one at the Medical School)

  • Easily borrowing  books not available in the WashU Libraries, from other libraries
  • Obtaining the full text of many journals, newspapers, and encyclopedias from your desktop
  • Setting up subject alerts so that your receive emails about new books or articles in your subject area
  • Accessing many library resources when you are off-campus
  • Getting quick answers for most questions by phone, email, or instant messaging
