A Guide to English Literature Resources

Collected resources and search tips for research in English Literature

Journals & Articles

Search for journal articles to discover the current academic discourse about topics, authors, and particular works.

Scholars share their insights and research through articles, and looking at older journal articles can give you an idea of how these conversations have evolved over the years.

You can browse individual journals, and you can also search across many journal publishers at once using online databases and indexes.

Search for Journals

Use the homepage search box to find journals. You have three options. Choose from the dropdown.

Type journal name into the search box and select one of the following search methods:

  • Quick Search: On your search results page, you can apply limiters to include only journals among the results
  • Classic Catalog: On the results page, change the search type from "word" to "journal title" to limit your results to journals only
  • eJournal List: To narrow your results, apply the limiters shown in the image below. ["Journals Only" and "Title equals"]

Browzine

BrowZine is an app (and website) providing a user-friendly option for reading subscription journals. Once you create your BrowZine account, using your WashU credentials, you may access journals through the BrowZine app without authenticating through the Libraries website.

You can create “bookshelves” of publications and will receive notifications when new issues are available.
