Chinese Film Classics is a project, a book, and a website dedicated to making early Chinese films (between the 1890s and the 1940s) and cinema history more accessible. The website presents a selection of some of the best early Chinese films with English subtitles, along with a selection of materials that helps us to understand each film’s historical, cultural, linguistic, social, and cinematic context.
